Αλέξανδρος Παπαδιαμάντης - Alexander Papadiamantis, one of the greatest authors of modern Greek literature. Ascetic and humble, student of classics and sage of Orthodox Christian spirituality, pious and sincere, he was fairly called "Saint of the Letters". He depicted in his writings the soul of the average rural Greek of his times (late 19th century - early 20th) with all rustic and folk elements of their daily lives included. He described the divine beauty of the Aegean landscapes and delved into the depths of the human psyche, in a way taken by no one before, with humanity, respect, compassion, and sympathy. His characters illustrate the literary "iconography" of modern day saints and sinners.
